With the awarding of a Michelin Star to PLATES London, a fully vegan restaurant has, for the first time, entered the gastronomic elite of the United Kingdom.
PLATES offers more than just fine dining — it presents a complete, innovative, and boldly inspired culinary experience that has won over the inspectors of the prestigious French guide through impeccable technique and surprising flavours.

Just a few steps from Old Street Station, in the lively (slightly hipster) neighbourhood of Shoreditch, PLATES welcomes its guests into an intimate, elegant, and nature-inspired setting, where every detail — from dark wood furnishings to neutral-toned walls — reflects the restaurant’s philosophy of harmony between people, food, and nature.

The creator of this project is Chef Kirk Haworth, chef and co-founder, who, after a career in some of the world’s top Michelin-starred restaurants, chose to dedicate himself entirely to plant-based cuisine also motivated by personal health. Over time, his deepest desire became clear: to elevate plant-based cuisine, making it ever more refined and delicious, so that even the most demanding palates could ‘bloom’.
Alongside him is his sister, Keeley Haworth, Managing Director, with a background in international branding and a deep commitment to sustainability.
Together, the Haworth siblings have shaped a gastronomic and entrepreneurial vision that goes far beyond the walls of the restaurant.
The Dishes that have made history
The PLATES tasting menu is vegetal symphony in several acts, composed with flawless technical precision and a creative flair that harmonises flavours and textures. Among the standout dishes that have conquered Michelin inspectors stand out:
🍞 Naturally leavened flaky bread with whipped butter, fermented currants, and winter spices: a savoury, croissant-like bite that combines crunchiness, acidity and spicy notes.
🍄🟫 Grilled maitake with black bean mole, kimchi, aioli, and puffed rice: a perfect balance of umami, texture, and complexity.
🍨 Rice pudding ice cream with chewy beetroot and mulberries: a play of textures and contrasts, sweetness and acidity.
🍰 Raw cocoa gâteau with black cherry, coconut flower ice cream, and raw caramel: a structured, intense and surprisingly harmonious dessert.

Much More Than a Restaurant
PLATES is not only a Michelin-starred vegan restaurant — it is also a creative hub offering consulting, design, and product development services for brands interested in sustainability, health, and innovation within the plant-based sector.
From crafting immersive culinary experiences to developing innovative products for international brands, the PLATES team has collaborated with some of the most prominent names in the food & beverage industry. Their expertise spans luxury gastronomy to functional nutrition, always guided by a unique approach tailored to each client.

A New Chapter: Plates Farm in France
In 2025, the dream evolves further with the inauguration in May of the Plates Farm & Retreat in Saint-Mézard, near the spa town of Lectoure in the lush region of Gascony, south-west France.
Nestled in the countryside between Bordeaux and Toulouse, the farm represents the new face of the PLATES philosophy: a place where nature, cuisine, and well-being meet.

A ‘crazy idea’ as the owners themselves say. The project took shape after five years of renovation crossed by many difficulties – with the desire to take the PLATES concept to new heights. The result is a sanctuary where guests can recharge, experiment, and be inspired. An increasingly in-depth journey into the world of regenerative cultivation and plant-based living.

What Plates Farm Offers
- 6-night retreats with breakfast/brunch included, two signature dinners by the chef, access to a shared kitchen, sauna, swimming pool, gym, and yoga on the terrace.
- Workshops, retreats, and experiential events, including collaborations with international chefs — all set in a space designed to nurture creativity, disconnection, and a profound connection with food.
- Organic gardens and seasonal crops, reflecting PLATES’ commitment to sustainability and a meaningful return to the land.
With Plates Farm, the Haworth brothers consolidate their position as pioneers of a new hospitality model – one rooted in authenticity, balance, and regeneration.
PLATES is not just a starred vegan restaurant. It is a movement, a vision, and a new way of understanding food as a powerful vehicle for change and health. And now, it’s also a physical destination where you can rediscover yourself and experience something truly meaningful.
Its founders promise great surprises.
